News Tuesday, August 25, 2009 ETA Good Morning, it is 1015 and we are presently motorsailing on a northwesterly course towards Northeast Harbor, Maine. We have rounded Cape Sable and are operating in and around fishing vessels and gear. Our ETA off Mount Desert Island is between 0200 and 0400 Wednesday morning. We are working on arranging to clear customs early, 0800 if possible. It is an additional 40 miles to Castine so it puts our arrival at late afternoon/early evening. I will call ahead to fine tune this ETA tomorrow once we are cleared back into the States. Presently the seas have decreased as has the wind. We are in fog with less than .5 nm visiblity. 105 nm to our waypoint off of Little Cranberry Island. Will most likely anchor out for the night and enter at first light. ~ Captain Eric Jergenson Monday, August 24, 2009 ]1230 UPDATE] We are presently rolling our way towards home. Departed Lunenburg at 0930 after re-stowing ourselves for sea and some last minute provisioning when the town re-opened after the winds. Bowdoin and crew faired Hurricane Bill well. We were snugged into The Fisheries of the Atlantic dock and let it pass on by. We were very sheltered in our berth and had an easy ride of it...thank goodness! Presently we are motorsailing and making for Cape Sable. Spirits are high as we start this last, homeward leg. We estimate an arrival Wednesday morning in Northeast Harbor for customs and then a jog coastwise to Castine. We will let you know the finer details as they get closer and clearer. ~ Capt. Jergenson Captain Eric Jergenson and Chief Mate Hannah Gray have been in contact with the office over the weekend and this morning, reporting that Lunenburg was an excellent port for protection from Hurricane Bill. The schooner and crew faired well and had a good port visit in this beautiful Nova Scotian port. They were watching the sea reports today and were planning on getting underway when the seas subsided to tolerable limits and will report in when underway. Friday, August 21, 2009 Currently approaching Halifax this morning. It is sunny and calm, motoring and making good progress. Will reach Lunenburg late tonight or early Saturday morning, they are expecting us there; we will dock and ride out the weather system. All is well. Thursday, August 20, 2009 We departed St. Peters Canal this morning and everyone enjoyed the lock. We are now motorsailing under main, fore, and staysail across the Canso Straits. All are in good spirits as we continue our training voyage. We have done repeated sail evolutions which include reefing, setting the trysail, and heaving-to. Skies are sunny, as they have been almost our e watching Bill closely and are staying near shore to enhance our ability to alter plans as the track line of the low develops. Immediate plans are to make our way to Lunenburg and reassess our position from there. The Atlantic Fisheries Museum knows of our planned arrival and they are trying to provide dockage for us for a couple of days. Our ETA for Lunenburg is early Saturday morning. We will keep you posted as our plans evolve.
